Dearborn Heights Police Chief Jerrod Hart discusses the factors, such as nutritional abuse and work stress, that led to his original diagnosis and the steps he’s taken to turn his health around.

With poor metabolic health being an issue for many in the field of law enforcement, Chief Hart shares his story in an effort to help fellow officers.

Chief Jerrod Hart began his law enforcement career as a patrol officer for the Novi Police Department in 1991. In 2000, he started the School Resource Officer program at Novi High School then served as an Investigator, Sergeant, Lieutenant and Assistant Chief of Police before retiring in December 2017 to lead the women and men of the Saline Police Department. In February 2022, Hart took over as chief of police in Dearborn Heights, Michigan.

Chief Hart holds bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Ferris State University and a master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Technology / Homeland Security from Eastern Michigan University. He is also a graduate of Eastern Michigan Universities School of Police Staff and Command and the University of Virginia, Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service -Leading, Educating and Developing program.
